Living in the most expensive city on Earth (not sure if this is actually true, but it feels like it) doesn’t mean you have to go into debt to have fun.
Let’s talk about free activities in NYC.
*This list will be updated as we find more free activities*
- Free comedy shows
There are quite a few free comedy shows that go on throughout the week. Here are a few to get you started:
- Vig Bar, Sunday nights at 7pm
- Post Moves Comedy at Bar Bayeux (Brooklyn), Sundays at 8:30pm
- Iggy’s, select Tuesdays at 7:30pm
- Bomb Shelter Comedy, Thursdays at 8pm
- Not Ripe Bananas, Tuesdays at 8pm
- Savage at Logan’s Run (Brooklyn), Thursdays at 8pm
- Staten Island Ferry
Hear me out.
A free boat ride. A sunset. A tall boy in a paper bag. You and your besties.
The boat leaves every 30 minutes, and each way takes about 25 minutes. Also, don’t go during rush hour.
- Yoga in Bryant Park
From May 29 to September 25, Bryant Park has free yoga classes on Tuesdays from 10-11am and on Wednesdays from 6-7pm. Bring your own mat and water.
Register here before.
- Free kayaking
From May 18 to October 14, Pier 26 offers free kayaking from 10am-4:30pm on weekends and holidays. Everything is provided, including lockers and sunblock.
Brooklyn Bridge Park offers free kayaking on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5-7pm, Saturdays from 10-3pm, and Sundays from 12-2:30pm.
- Gallery opening crawl
Almost every day of the week, but especially Thursdays, there are a ton of art gallery openings and many of them serve free wine.
I’ve also heard this is a great place to meet men.
I find info on these gallery openings from @thirstygallerina on Instagram.
- 9/11 Memorial & Museum
Every Monday from 5:30pm-7pm, the 9/11 Museum has free admission. Great deal compared to the $33 regular priced ticket.
