My friends and I went so you don’t have to…
Late this past June, my friends and I decided to differ from the usual rounds we make at our local bars and headed down to Pier 15 in Fidi for what was marketed as a Taylor Swift Party Cruise by the company iBoat.
We arrived at Pier 15, home to Watermark (one of my favorite places to get outdoor drinks in the summer), and were greeted with a line that extended almost all the way to the street.
After waiting for about 40 minutes, we finally made it onto the boat. This was 30 minutes after the advertised departure time. We quickly came to find out that only one level of the three-story yacht was for the Swifties – the bottom floor was an R&B party and the top deck was EDM.
So we made our way to floor two, the designated Taylor Swift party area, and purchased some adult beverages.
I ordered a double Tito’s and soda and a beer for my friend, and found myself dumbfounded when the bartender said the total was $62.
For three drinks.
I asked him if that was correct, and low and behold, a single Tito’s on this party boat did indeed cost $21, bringing my drink total to $42.
Finally, the boat started making laps around lower Manhattan, the different eras of T-Swift blasting as the hours creeped by.
I say creeped by because this ‘party’ was anything but. There were a couple groups of drunk millennials living their best lives, but the overall energy on floor two was stale and honestly, felt forced. Way too much TTPD was being played. How do you dance to that?
We paid a visit to the EDM floor which was about the same – mostly people just standing around, taking in the views (the only redeeming part of this cruise), and 3-4 people attempting a mosh pit by the DJ booth.
Overall, the $42 double was enough to put a stale taste in my mouth about the entire experience right off the bat. The energy was weird, and I found the entire thing to be a rip-off, to be completely honest. I won’t be going on another iBoat cruise anytime soon.
